Born in 1917 in London, UK singer Vera Lynn began performing at an early age. By the late 1930s, Lynn had become a popular radio performer, appearing on the program Life from Mayfair then presented her own show, Sincerely Yours.
She was made a dame of the British Empire in 1975. In 2009, she topped the British album charts with We’ll Meet Again: The Very Best of Vera Lynn.
20th March 2017 saw Vera Lynn celebrate her 100th birthday with the release of an album Vera Lynn 100 which uses her original recordings plus the voices of the likes of Alfie Boe, Alex Armstrong and Aled Jones.
Vera Lynn died on 18th June 2020, aged 103.

Vera Lynn also holds the distinction of being the first British artist to get to Number 1 in the American charts, with the song “Auf Wiedersehn Sweetheart”. The song was also a hit in Great Britain although it was released before record charts were compiled in the UK.
